One-horned rhinos at Kaziranga, river islands of Majuli, golden tea gardens & the mighty Brahmaputra — Assam is India's greenest secret.
Assam, India's gateway to the Northeast, is a land of extraordinary biodiversity, ancient temple traditions, and a river so mighty it shapes civilisations. The Brahmaputra — one of the world's great rivers — meanders across the state like a living artery, creating the world's largest river island at Majuli and sustaining wetland ecosystems that shelter the rare one-horned Indian rhinoceros. At Luxytrix, we craft Assam tour packages that take you from the UNESCO-listed grasslands of Kaziranga to the monk-island culture of Majuli, through rolling tea estates where the world's finest Assam CTC and orthodox teas are grown.
Travellers flying in from Noida and Delhi connect via Guwahati's Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, making the Northeast far more accessible than most assume. Direct flights from Mumbai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad land in Guwahati in under three hours, and our packages begin from the moment you step off the plane. Families from Ahmedabad, Pune, and Chennai love the Assam wildlife experience for its relative affordability and child-friendly safaris where open Jeeps meander through tall elephant-grass corridors. Honeymooners from Kolkata, Surat, Chandigarh, and Lucknow choose our luxury tea-bungalow stays and river-cruise options, while group travellers from Jaipur and Indore opt for the comprehensive packages that combine Kaziranga with Shillong in Meghalaya.
Did You Know? Kaziranga National Park is home to the world's largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses — over 2,600 individuals — and also one of the densest populations of Royal Bengal tigers in India. It spans 430 sq km of tall elephant-grass meadows, semi-evergreen forests, and wetlands across the floodplains of the Brahmaputra.
No Assam tour is complete without a dawn Jeep safari through Kaziranga. The park is divided into four main ranges — the Central (Kohora) Range is most popular, the Western (Bagori) Range is best for bird photography, the Eastern (Agoratoli) Range offers quieter wilderness, and the Burapahar Range has dense jungle. Our guides take you to waterholes where rhinos wallow in prehistoric calm, and on lucky mornings you might spot a tigress with cubs in the tall grassland. Kaziranga also shelters wild Asian elephants, Gangetic river dolphins, and over 480 species of birds including the rare Bengal florican.
A 2-hour ferry ride from Jorhat drops you into Majuli, an island that seems to exist outside time. Home to the Vaishnavite Satra monasteries founded by the saint-scholar Srimanta Sankardeva in the 15th century, Majuli preserves mask-making, Bhaona dance theatre, and manuscript traditions that are fast disappearing elsewhere. Our tours include a traditional sattriya dance performance, visits to Kamalabari and Garamur Satra, and a bicycle ride through tribal villages of the Mishing and Deori communities.
Assam's capital perched on the south bank of the Brahmaputra rewards a day's exploration. The Kamakhya Temple atop Nilachal Hill is one of India's most powerful Shakti peethas; it draws pilgrims from across the subcontinent and the annual Ambubachi Mela (June) transforms the city. An evening cruise on the Brahmaputra as the sun sets behind the Nilachal hills is one of the region's signature travel experiences.
Assam produces more than 50% of India's total tea output. Our packages include a guided tea-estate walk where you learn the difference between first flush, second flush, and rain teas; a visit to the tea factory floor to witness orthodox and CTC processing; and optional night stays in heritage planter bungalows where you wake up to mist-covered rows of Camellia sinensis stretching to the horizon. The Dibrugarh and Jorhat districts have the most celebrated estates.

Make the most of your Northeast adventure
Kaziranga Jeep safari permits (especially Central Range) sell out weeks ahead during peak season (Nov–Mar). Book through Luxytrix or Forest Dept online at least 15 days prior.
Avoid bright clothing — khaki, olive, and grey help you blend into the grassland. Bring a light jacket for 5 AM safari starts even in November; temperatures can drop to 10°C.
Guwahati (GAU) has direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, and Chennai. Jorhat (JRH) also connects to Kolkata and is closer to Kaziranga — ideal for shorter trips.
The Jorhat–Majuli ferry (from Nimati Ghat) operates from 7 AM. The crossing takes 1.5–2 hours on the Brahmaputra. Confirm schedules locally as they vary by season and water level.
Don't miss masor tenga (sour fish curry), duck meat curry, pork with bamboo shoot, and khar (a unique alkaline dish). Wash it down with sulai rice beer at a Mishing tribal village.
Dense forest areas have mosquitoes especially in the evenings. Pack Odomos cream, long-sleeved clothing, and take malaria prophylaxis if recommended by your doctor for the Northeast.
